CURRENT PROJECTS WITH AVERAGE ADVOCATE

Need a place to start making the difference you were born to make? Start here. Currently Average Advocate has four projects we are running together:

  1. The LBD.Project – an annual monthly challenge giving us a way to finally do something about modern slavery
  2. World Changers United – weekly challenges to get in the habit of being world changers
  3. Collecting Baby Carriers or donations for baby boxes for refugees
  4. Collecting Bras for Free the Girls helping provide jobs for sex trafficking survivors

World Changers United

Join us for regular challenges designed to help us get out of our box, and practice loving others in a tangible way. These little things add up until without even realizing it, we are are changing the world. Join here.

WHAT IS WORLD CHANGERS UNITED?

World Changers United is simply a Facebook Group where weekly challenges are posted. Then we talk about them, encourage each other in them, and give ideas for new projects.

DOES IT COST ANYTHING?

Although sometimes our challenges are donation driven, we try to keep costs low so people can participate even if they don’t have a lot of financial margin. For example, last year we bought a blanket to help refugees for $13, bought coffee for a stranger, and made a sack lunch for a homeless person to name a few. I try to keep the costs for the month as close to free as possible, or at max, a total of $15. If you can’t afford that project, I understand. Either skip it, or try to find a way to do something

Time-wise I try to keep the weekly challenges something you could complete in under half an hour (or sometimes only a few minutes). I know you are busy. So am I. This is about training yourself to feel like you can do something by making it a habit of actively loving others.

DO WE REALLY MAKE AN IMPACT?

Sometimes we can’t do a lot. But these little things, together, make a big thing. For example, if one person writes a letter to a trafficking survivor, that is one person who is encouraged. If one hundred people write a letter to a survivor, that is one hundred people who’ve been told they are loved.

Remember, you can’t live an intentional life unless you actually actively intentionally live. World Changers United is a simple way to help you do just that.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU JOIN THE GROUP:

Be sure that once you join this group, you do the following:

  1. Make sure your notifications are on so you will see each new project
  2. Read the guidelines
  3. Tell us what you think of the weekly projects–the more interaction the better (even if it is just “okay”)
  4. DO THE PROJECT
  5. Report back when I ask how it went
  6. Invite a friend (or more) to keep doing these with you

THE LBD.Project

The The LBD.Project is a challenge for people who believe that everyone deserves a chance to be free. Each March, around the U.S., and even internationally, participants choose one black item of clothing (dress/shirt/sweater/suit/tie) and wear it each day of the month to intentionally remember those whose freedoms are limited by modern day slavery.

Although part of this is a personal challenge, it also creates awareness for and fundraises for various human trafficking organizations we partner with as we learn how to be non-salesy advocates as we share about what we are doing through the month.

LBD.Project was formerly known as the Little Black Dress Project–but we we started going by our acronym when we realized men were repelled by the word “dress” (strangely).

If you want to do something about modern day slavery and aren’t sure where to start, only have minimal time and money to donate–check out the LBD.Project!

Baby Carriers and Used Bras

Collecting Baby Carriers or donations for baby boxes for refugees, and Collecting Used Bras for Free the Girls to provide jobs for sex trafficking survivors, are both ongoing projects of Average Advocate. We work in tandem with these partner organizations, and will therefore point you in the best way to play a part in serving or donating to them.

If you are interested in either of the above collections, contact Average Advocate here and we will get you connected with your local group or give you an address to send these items to.
