Why I Can't Vote For Pro-Abortion Hillary

I don’t know about you, but my moral compass has been spinning during the 2016 election. I want to seek justice as I vote, but I am not sure it is possible. To help myself (and others who felt this same tension), I asked you guys to share with me your own perspectives as you try to balance your worldview, beliefs about God, and opinions as you seek the good of our nation through the context of justice.

The goal of these points aren’t to fight, but to help us consider the same three points from various vantage points to help us look at all angles.

God & Politics: ANONYMOUS #2 (Why I Can’t Vote For Pro-Abortion Hillary)

Let me first off start by saying this is not a pro-Trump rant. I could just as easily pick apart his character, along with his overly-vague “policies” on how he plans to “make America great again”. I don’t particularly like him or what he stands for, and am pretty dead set on not voting for him.

But the point of my political argument is to openly state why I can’t, on grounds of morals, vote for Hillary either.

On the final presidential debate both candidates discussed their views on abortion. I was pleasantly surprised when Trump shared his views that it was wrong, and was disappointed by Hillary’s response. I’m disappointed in not only her position of pro-choice, but that she is in favor of late-term abortions. She clarified that she would only be in favor of late-term abortions if the health of the mother is at stake AND that the decision should be between the mother/family and the doctor.

First off, moral grounds aside, what constitutes “health?” Is it strictly physical health? Or does it include emotional health, financial health, etc . . . ? I could see how considering the “health of the mother” could open a loop-hole for late term abortions to be allowed for a wide-variety of reasons that are outside of life or death. This is a slippery slope. Injustices happen all of the time, and I think one of the reasons that abortion is so hot is because the nature of the injustice seems so severe. Here is a helpless baby who has no ability to speak for or defend itself having its life taken in often times a very barbaric and cruel way.

If anyone hasn’t researched the facts on all types of abortion, including late-term abortion, I urge you to do so. It can be quite shocking to actually learn what happens when a fetus’ life is terminated.

From a my Christian perspective, how can I/we knowingly vote for a candidate who has publicly started her policies on murder? God gave the Israelites and all of us the Ten Commandments as a guidepost of sorts. A way of checking ourselves and out motives to see if they align with God’s motives and desires. God commands us not to murder, so how could I vote for someone who supports the taking of another’s life?

I think if I voted for Hillary and, being that there is an opening for a Supreme Court judge that she would fill that would result in pro-choice legislation, I’d feel partly responsible for it as I knowingly helped elect her when I knew her views.

Jesus declared that the greatest two commandments were that we love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and the second great commandment is to love thy neighbor as thyself. When you add those Biblical truths to how we are described before we were born, we get a picture that God intentionally created each and every one of us with such love and detail. I get a picture that God has great plans for each of His children. No where do I read that God formed our inmost parts, and realized He had made a mistake.

My prayer is that this world would place the Lord as the rightful ruler over their life. That when faced with difficult decisions–like this election–we would turn to Him for instruction and wisdom. And that as a collective body of Christian believers we would speak on behalf of all of those who are in need of justice, regardless of what the culture says.
